OUR VISION
Maali Group’s vision is to develop a program for success for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. By providing career opportunities and progression pathways through upskill training, we can increase Indigenous employment and improve retention and mobility.
Maali Group was founded with two goals. The first is to facilitate greater Indigenous participation in the resources, energy, utilities and infrastructure sectors. The second but equally important goal, is to deliver exceptional skills and services to our clients, all while helping them meet their Indigenous engagement commitments.
This is business with a purpose. By servicing the needs of the Australian resource sector, we can positively impact the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders.

Our Mentor Program
Mitch Matera, Founder and Managing Director of Maali Group, heads up our mentoring program. A proud Noongar man from Gnaala Karla Booja and Ballardong country, he is passionate about sharing his experience in business and bringing about real employment outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. He understands that the key to retaining employees, and optimising safety and productivity, is with appropriate mentoring and training.
Our mentoring program addresses the unique challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, and provides ongoing professional development, encouragement and support. It works in tandem with traditional apprenticeship, traineeship and cadetship programs, to create a culturally-aware approach to talent development.
This approach creates a pathway to success by providing a range of up-skilling training and career progression, to improve the retention and mobility of Aboriginal employees.
CULTURE & COMMUNITY
Indigenous Engagement
Maali Group is committed to working with Aboriginal communities, the federal and state governments and our clients, to deliver positive transformational change for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders. We seek to support our clients in recognising traditional land custodians, through formal acknowledgments and effective engagement.
Our Aboriginal Engagement Strategy is supported by dedicated, clear and practical policies. It is embedded within our company values, ensuring support from every level of the business. It is not a quick solution to the imbalance between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people in Australia. Rather, it is as a long term, sustainable approach that will transform all facets of our business.
It is underpinned by the belief that real engagement can only occur within a framework of self-determination and economic partnerships, where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders share in the wealth being produced on their Traditional land.
SAFETY, HEALTH, ENVIRONMENT & QUALITY (SHEQ)
The safety and wellbeing of our employees is paramount to the success of Maali Group. Our team is committed to the safety of each other and ensuring everyone gets through the day without incident.
RISK FOCUSED
Risk management is embedded into everything we do. We celebrate our achievements to drive further engagement and ownership in SHEQ.

Through effective engagement with our teams, we better understand the challenges and obstacles they face. We work collaboratively with our teams in order to develop and implement the most practical solutions and improvements.
LEADERSHIP
Our leaders are visible, engaged with all levels of the organisation and lead by example.
STOP WORK AUTHORITY
Every team member is empowered to halt a job or task they believe to be unsafe, without risk of reprisal.

We are open to learning from each other, our clients and industry.
EMPOWERMENT
We build the skills, knowledge and confidence of our team members to empower them to make their own decisions. We consult with our teams, enabling them to contribute to the bigger picture.
